After her very first true young love breaks her heart by disappearing without another word, Julia misguidedly turns to the wrong man for comfort. Without knowing what has become of Nick and having no way to contact him she is searching for stability and acceptance. But the approval and sense of security that she so desperately wants after feeling like her life has fallen apart does not happen as she hoped. After an accident frees Julia from a disastrous marriage she is left to fend for herself and her young son without any assistance from her family.
Through an older newfound friend she manages to secure employment and provide some stability for her young son and herself. This sense of security is upset by the arrival of the man from her past. Her first love is now all grown up, and has succeeded in creating out a place for himself in the cooking world, and is able to work in the profession he has dreamed of since he was a young boy. When his aunt requests his help at the Hippo Hotel he feels that it’s time to return home again. Meeting Julia again makes him wonder if he really had made the right choices all those years ago.
